The research group led by Associate Professor Yosuke Minowa from the Department of Physics, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University (Planned Research C02), has demonstrated a direct one-to-one correspondence between optical vortices in nonlinear optical media and quantized vortices. In particular, the authors report the existence of a unique excitation on an optical vortex beam that serves as a direct analogue of the Kelvin wave on quantized vortices. This study provides a clear framework for both optical and low-temperature physics to explore new phenomena arising from this correspondence.
